Based in Liverpool, Coppersmiths Rum Co. is a small-scale passion project run by just two long-time friends Tom and Ryan. They wanted to bring something fresh to the rum market, aiming to shake off the darker and nautical themes and introduce a wider audience to the modern world of rum.
Born out of lockdown boredom and a quest for better flavor, Coppersmiths Rum Company blends tradition with innovation, crafting unique, delightful rums. With a commitment to sustainability and community, we’re redefining the rum experience for a modern, sophisticated palate.

Based in Liverpool, Tom is a sustainability manager from St Helens, Merseyside
As well as discovering new rums, Tom enjoys going to gigs, gaming and travelling.
Tom's perfect serve would be Coppersmiths Orange & Ginger spiced rum over ice.
Ryan
Co-Founder
Originally from South Africa, Ryan is an officer in the Royal Air Force.
Outside of work he enjoys rock climbing, exploring new cocktail bars and geeking out at board game cafes.
Ryan's favourite serve is Coppersmiths Orange & Ginger spiced rum with ginger ale and a squeeze of lime.
Coppersmiths Rum Company: Our Brand Story
In the heart of a pandemic lockdown, when the world seemed to stand still, the seeds of Coppersmiths Rum Company were planted. For Tom and Ryan, the founders of Coppersmiths, the monotony of being confined at home sparked a journey from curiosity to craftsmanship. With a history rooted in sustainability and a shared passion for reducing carbon emissions through their previous venture, they found themselves exploring a new frontier: the world of rum.
The story began with a simple, terrible bottle of white rum. Seeking to improve its taste, Tom embarked on a kitchen experiment, steeping the rum with various ingredients. The result was surprisingly delightful, sparking a realization. Despite rum's rich history, it lacked the diversity and innovation found in the gin market. Fueled by this insight, Tom called Ryan, and the two began a deep dive into the art and science of rum-making.
The name "Coppersmiths" was chosen as a homage to the copper stills essential in the rum distillation process. It symbolizes their commitment to mastering the craft of rum-making, blending tradition with modern techniques. While their budget constraints prevent them from producing rum locally, their process remains artisanal. They import high-quality rum in bulk, refine it at a local brewery, and infuse it with a carefully crafted blend of fresh orange peel and root stem ginger, creating a unique and delicious flavor profile.
